Sun exposure has benefits for the body, such as helping the production of vitamin D which is important for bone health and the immune system. However, too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays without protection can cause various skin problems, ranging from premature aging, the appearance of dark spots, to an increased risk of skin cancer. Unfortunately, many people still think that using sunscreen is not very important, especially for those who rarely do outdoor activities or when the weather is cloudy. In fact, UV rays can still penetrate clouds and glass, so the skin is still at risk of exposure even though we are indoors or in a vehicle.

To protect the skin from the negative effects of sunlight, the use of sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 is highly recommended. Sunscreen not only needs to be applied when going outdoors, but also every morning before starting the day. In addition, reapplication every two to three hours is important, especially if you sweat or are in the sun for a long time. The choice of sunscreen must also be adjusted to your skin type. For oily skin, gel-based or water-based sunscreen is more suitable because it does not clog pores. Meanwhile, for those with dry skin, sunscreen with additional moisturizing content can provide extra protection.

In addition to relying on sunscreen, there are additional steps that can be taken to protect the skin from UV rays. Wearing clothing that covers the skin, such as long-sleeved shirts and wide-brimmed hats, and using sunglasses with UV protection can help reduce direct exposure. Avoiding outdoor activities during the hours when the sun's rays are most intense, namely between 10 am and 4 pm, is also a wise step.

Protecting the skin from the sun is not only about maintaining aesthetics and preventing premature aging, but also a long-term investment for skin health. With the right habits, we can reduce the risk of various skin problems and keep the skin healthy and radiant. Therefore, do not ignore sunscreen - protection from now will determine the condition of the skin in the future!
