The implementation of telemedicine in dentistry in Indonesia faces various challenges that need to be overcome in order to be implemented effectively. One of the main obstacles is the limitation in making an accurate diagnosis without direct physical examination. Many procedures in dentistry, such as oral cavity examinations and minor surgical procedures, require direct interaction between doctors and patients.
In addition, the uneven technological infrastructure in various regions in Indonesia is an obstacle to the implementation of telemedicine. Limited internet access, especially in rural and remote areas, can hinder communication between patients and dentists. On the other hand, public awareness and digital literacy of technology-based health services are still relatively low, so the adoption of telemedicine in dentistry requires broader education.
The regulatory aspect is also an important challenge. Currently, regulations related to telemedicine practices in dentistry are still developing, especially in terms of patient data protection, legal limitations in remote diagnosis, and service standards that must be met.
Nevertheless, telemedicine still has great potential in increasing access to dental health services, especially in prevention education, initial consultations, and post-treatment monitoring. With the development of appropriate policies and improvements in technological infrastructure, telemedicine can be an innovative solution in the world of dentistry in Indonesia.
