Iron and Anemia: Why Does the Body Often Feel Tired?

Feeling tired all the time can be a sign that the body is lacking iron. Iron is an important mineral that plays a role in the production of hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that is responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body. If the body lacks iron, the oxygen supply to the muscles and organs will be disrupted, causing the body to tire easily and become lethargic.


Iron deficiency anemia can be caused by a diet low in iron, excessive blood loss (such as from heavy menstruation or internal bleeding), and impaired absorption of iron in the intestines. Other symptoms that often accompany this condition include pale skin, dizziness, shortness of breath, and difficulty concentrating.


To prevent and treat iron deficiency anemia, it is important to consume iron-rich foods such as red meat, liver, spinach, beans, and iron-fortified cereals. Consuming vitamin C along with iron-rich foods can also increase its absorption in the body.

If symptoms of anemia persist, medical examination and iron supplements may be needed. By ensuring adequate iron intake, the body can regain energy and function optimally every day.
